How to Take Care of Your Car Window Tint

3 Ways to Protect Your Car Window Tinting

Car window tinting provides your vehicle's interior protection from ultraviolet rays and enhances your privacy and visibility when driving. While a quality car tint can last for many years, how you care for it is key to its longevity. Here are three tips to know after getting your car windows tinted.

1. Be Careful During the Cure Period

It takes several days for window tinting to cure, so avoid contact with your windows during this time. The windows may look hazy or streaky, but wait until the tint has fully cured before cleaning. The windows will clear up after the lingering moisture from the tint application dries. To prevent peeling, wait for a day or two after tinting before rolling down the windows.

2. Use Gentle Cleaners

Even if the tint has cured, wait a month after the tinting process to clean your windows. Use mild dish soap and water or a non-ammonia glass cleaner alongside a sponge or non-abrasive cloth rag to clean automotive window tinting. Avoid using cleaning products that may ruin the tint, such as ammonia glass cleaners or scrubbing sponges.

3. Keep Minimal Contact With Windows

Keep hard objects, such as keys or garage tools, from making contact with the windows. Be cautious when you're near the glass to prevent bumping into it accidentally. If there are scratches and chips in the tint, replace the damaged area to restore its appearance and functionality.
